Use separate apps simultaneously on your Galaxy S25

Use separate apps simultaneously on your Galaxy S25
Split screen apps
You can open two apps simultaneously using the split screen feature. If there are two apps you use frequently, you can even pair them together.
- Swipe left from the right side of the Home screen to open the Multi window tray.
- Tap the grid at the bottom to view all of your current apps.
- To open apps in split screen view, drag and drop the first app to the top or bottom portions of the screen. Then, repeat this process for the second app.
- You can also tap Recents, tap an app’s icon at the top of the screen, and then tap either Open in split screen view or Open in pop-up view.
- When you are in split screen view, you can use the blue dividers between the apps to adjust the size of the windows.
- To create an app pair, tap Recents, and then swipe to the apps you wish to pair. Tap the app’s icon at the top of the screen, and then tap Add app pair. Then, select your desired location for the app pair.
- To close an app in split screen view or pop-up view, tap the blue divider at the top of the app’s screen, and then tap the X icon.
Multi window can also be used with the S Pen on your S25 Ultra! For instance, you can cross-reference documents and emails in Microsoft Office apps, such as Outlook and PowerPoint, and then make notes and suggestions using your S Pen.
Separate app sounds
Media sounds from your preferred apps can be played using a different audio device.
- Navigate to and open Settings, and then tap Sounds and vibration.
- Tap Separate app sound, and then tap the switch next to Turn on now.
- Tap Select when prompted, and then select the apps that will play on the separate audio device. Tap Add apps to add more if desired. Then, tap Back.
- Next, select the audio device you want to use for the app. You can choose either Phone or Bluetooth device. However, the Bluetooth option may only be available when a Bluetooth device is connected to your phone.
- Tap Back. Your selected apps’ sounds will play on the audio device you selected. To change the apps or audio device at a later time, navigate back to Settings, then tap Separate app sound, and then tap App or Audio device.
- To control the volume for each app, press the Volume button. When pressed, a pop-up menu will display the volume level and current sound type. You can tap the three horizontal dots at the top of the menu to expand it, and then adjust the volume by dragging the desired sliders.
Use screens separately with DeX
Samsung DeX allows you to use your phone in two modes simultaneously:
- External display mode:
- Connect your phone to an external display using a DeX cable, an HDMI to USB-C cable, or a standard USB-C to HDMI adapter.
- The external display shows a desktop-like interface, enabling you to work with multiple apps, drag and drop files, and multitask efficiently.
- Phone mode:
- While the external display is active, your phone's screen will remain functional in its standard phone mode.
- You can continue using your phone for calls, notifications, and other tasks without interrupting the DeX experience on the external display.
- Enhance DeX with keyboard and mouse:
- Pair a keyboard and mouse with DeX to navigate the external display for a desktop-like interface more efficiently.
- Make tasks like typing, file management, and multitasking more seamless.
This dual-screen functionality enhances productivity by letting you manage both modes independently, making it ideal for multitasking and maximizing your phone's capabilities.
Use a DeX cable or an HDMI cable
To connect your phone to a monitor or TV using a DeX cable or an HDMI cable:
- Connect a keyboard and mouse:
- For a wired connection, simply plug in your USB keyboard and mouse into a multiport adapter, then connect the other end to the USB-C port on your phone.
- For a wireless connection, pair your Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with your phone. Go to and open Settings, tap Connections, and then tap Bluetooth. Turn on the Bluetooth switch, and then pair your devices.
Note: You may be prompted on the phone's screen to enter the pairing code on your keyboard, and then press Enter.
- Connect the cables for DeX:
- Plug the USB-C end of the DeX cable or HDMI cable into your phone.
- Connect the other end to the HDMI port on your monitor or TV.
- Active DeX on your phone:
- If it's your first time using DeX, a pop-up will appear on your phone's Home screen. Tap Start to enable Full Desktop mode.
- If the pop-up doesn't appear, swipe down with two fingers from the top right corner to open the Quick settings panel, and then tap the DeX icon.
- Switch to DeX mode:
- If your monitor or TV automatically mirrors your phone's screen, open the Notification panel on the phone by swiping down from the top left corner of the screen. Tap the Samsung DeX notification, then select Samsung DeX to switch to DeX mode.
- Alternatively, swipe down with two fingers from the top right corner of the screen to open the Quick settings panel, then tap the DeX icon.
- Review the on-screen instructions:
- If instructions appear on your TV or monitor, review them and then select OK.
- Use DeX and your phone:
- Use up to 5 apps at once in the DeX to get things done for work, study, or entertainment on a bigger screen. You can even check your phone notifications in DeX.
- Use your phone like you normally would for calls, notifications, and other tasks without interrupting the DeX experience.
Note: DeX will restart if you remove or unplug the DeX cable or the HDMI cable. Save all changes before unplugging.
- Exit DeX mode:
- Select the Apps icon in the bottom left corner of the DeX screen, and then select Exit DeX.
- Disconnect the cable from your phone.
